Music plays normally until navigation announces a turn, then stays quiet or never recovers.
If that sounds familiar, this post answers one practical question: how to separate normal audio-focus behavior from an app or system fault. You do not need to memorize the jargon; you need a reliable way to judge and check.
Check guidance, ducking and resume settings, then cross-test with another navigation and music app.

Android audio focus (Android’s rule for deciding which app gets to speak) supports temporary focus changes and “ducking,” where background audio continues at a lower level during a navigation prompt.
Spoken-word apps may choose to pause instead of ducking.
Labels such as Smart, Third-party priority, System priority, Mix or Exclusive are vendor-specific policies.
Their behaviour is not portable between head units, and third-party navigation or media apps may respond differently to focus requests.
While parked, test three combinations: music with navigation, a podcast with navigation, and music with a Bluetooth call.
Record whether the background lowers, pauses, continues unchanged or disappears.
Adjust the mix only after identifying the actual behaviour.
Calls, reversing alerts and vehicle safety tones does not need to be treated as ordinary navigation prompts.
Start at a low volume and confirm that critical sounds remain audible.
